Dr. Carson Liu describes the laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery which creates a sensation of being full and inhibits someone from eating too much food.

Dr. Liu:
Laparoscopic gastric bypass is very similar in the sense that we create a stomach about the same size as that’s above the band, about the size of a golf ball, and we bypass the beginning part of the small intestine. What it does, it basically creates a sensation of being full and inhibits the person from eating a lot of volume of food.

The other great thing about the gastric bypass is that you cannot eat very greasy foods and you cannot eat very sweet food, otherwise you will get this thing called dumping syndrome. And dumping syndrome is a syndrome of symptoms and one of it, one of the most common is diarrhea. But some people can have vomiting. Other people can have flushing, heart palpitations, abdominal pains have lasted for about six hours. And this really keeps that patient in a straight and narrow path on their diet because they do not want to cheat on their diet if they have a gastric bypass.
