Pamela explains if she discussed her feelings about going through menopause with friends and how they reacted.

Pamela:
Well, when I started to realize that there was a connection between my sex life disappearing, my hormones disappearing, and my age, the first thing I did was start to phone up my girlfriends and say, surely, I am not the only one who is going through this. I mean, 6,000 American women turn 50 every day in our country.

I mean, somebody had to make the connection, so I would phone up my girlfriends and ask them if they had made this connection, and if they were doing anything about it. And I don’t know what it is about this topic, but the minute you mention sex and hormones or lack of sex, women clam up. It was like there’s this pink elephant in the room and everyone sees it, and no one is going to talk about it, and that’s why I ended up naming my book Ride the Pink Elephant.
