Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

thank you so much for the help and reassurance. I felt so much more relaxed and relieved about the whole thing. and best of all, I got my period last night, exactly 3 weeks late. I've never been so happy to see it :) I'll never know why it was so late, but I'm going to make sure I never have to feel like that ever again. the tension was killing me.

Anon,

You are so very welcome. And I'm so glad that you got your period, even though I know that was a really rough three weeks.

Keep up the good work with safe sex and condom use. And I know that if you do, you won't be as fretful the next time your period is late. Stress really can do a number on our hormones, for no particular reason.

I know you're feeling a great sense of relief!!

Ramirez,

It's always hard to know exactly when you ovulate, even with predictor kits, isn't it? Most doctors suggest that when you are trying to conceive, you have sex every other day during your fertile period.

Sperm can live for up to 3 days inside our bodies, and the egg can live for about 24-36 hours. So your fertile period can begin up to 3 days before you ovulate, and doesn't end until about 24-36 hours after you ovulate. The ovulation predictor kits do a good job of helping you pinpoint the right day, but it's not a perfect science by any means.

Good luck to you! Please come back and let us know!

Ramirez,

Hi, and thank you for your question!

There's a great ovulation calculator here. You can put the dates of your last period in and it tells you when you should be most fertile:

http://www.babycenter.com/ovulation-calculator

Using it, I put in your November period date with a cycle length of 30 days and it told me that in December, your most fertile days were probably December 6 to December 11.

I put in your December period and it tells me that your fertile period is now!! It actually began Monday (the 4th) and ends Saturday (the 9th).

The ovulation calculator does predict your fertile periods for the few months upcoming, but since it's just a calendar function (and our real cycles can be very unpredictable) it is good to check it with each month's actual period date. But here's what it said for your upcoming months:

Feb 3-8
March 5-10
April 4-9
May 4-9
June 3-8
July 3-8

Does that help you, Ramirez? Best of luck to you; I hope you're successful soon and that you have a healthy, happy pregnancy.

Hey. Me and my girl friend had PROTECTED sex about a 2 weeks ago. After the process of having sex, she removed the condom and stroked my penis until I ejactulated. After that occured, I looked at the condom and there were no holeS whatsoever.

However, she hasn't gotten her period in the month of December and still hasn't till this day. She is feeling absoultely fine but I'm just confused for why she hasn't received it for so long. Please help me out.

Best Regards,
Marvin Fox from New England.
