Dr. Horwitz introduces himself and describes the association between diet and autoimmune conditions.
Dr. Horwitz:
Hi, I am Dr. Randy Horwitz. I am the Medical Director of the Arizona Center for Integrated Medicine based at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and I am a medical doctor and also have a Ph.D. in molecular biology in immunology.
There are, there are dietary triggers that have been identified for autoimmune flares of various conditions. There are various elimination diets that are available for certain conditions and there are also some agents that you can take or use in supplementary form, dietary supplements that may help. So there’s a strong connection in everything we put in our mouth and the effect it has on the immune system.
