Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Your mother may need a specially pureed diet, or at least a soft diet, to avoid choking.

About one in ten people have pain after stroke, some throughout the body and some in the face (or both). This pain needs to be reported to her doctor.
She should have come home with a treatment plan, including rehab therapy. Address this plan with her doctor and ask about the swallowing and pain. Hopefully the latter symptoms are immediate symptoms from the stroke and will fade but they are certainly worth discussing.
Best,
Susan
