Be sure to read the instructions that come with your pill, but most of them say the same thing: if you miss one pill, and take it as soon as you remember, you do not need to use back-up birth control.
That means in your situation: your pill would still be at the 99% effectiveness rate, assuming that you take it consistently and correctly all of the other days. You have no increased chance of pregnancy.
One side note: you do not ovulate when you are on the pill. The pill, and other hormonal contraceptives, actually work in several ways. One of those ways is to prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from your ovary).

Im using Trivora and I was supposed to take my last active pill on Sunday and its now Tuesday. I would usually be starting a new pack on Monday but now I'm not sure what I should do. Should I start the new pack on Saturday that way I had 7 days of nonactive pills? Im not sure and how will that effect how my birth control works? Will I have to wait a week when I start my new pack before having sex? Please help

Hi,
You can just start your new pack on Monday as scheduled.
You will need to use back-up form of birth control for 7 days (Monday-Sunday) if you choose to have sex.
I answered your question more in-depth here: https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/missed-last-active-pill-birth-control-trivora#comment-65965

Anonymous, any time you have unprotected sex you risk pregnancy. The usually recommendation would be to use a secondary method of birth control for the rest of the month.

HEY, I have been on the pill for a few years, was on Microgynon 30 from 16 to 19 years old, and then changed to Femodette because I get bad migraines. I stopped my pill around February and started again on Wednesday 14th July (this month) I missed one pill on the first week and doubled up the next day and I missed 2 other pills this Monday and Tuesday (26th and 27th) but didnt double up, I've just been taking the others as normal, and my boyfriend is coming over on wednesday 4th August which will be the 7th day after those missed pills, so will I be safe to have unprotected sex? As in will it be ok for him to ejaculate inside me? PLEASE HELP REALLY NEED TO KNOW!!
July 30, 2010 - 5:25pmTHANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
