Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question

The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.

We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.

Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.

I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!

Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

This is July 17, Anonymous,

Thank you very much for the advice. I will try and relax in the next few days and hope that my period comes. I am also scheduled this next week for a doctors appointment to talk about my irregular periods and also discuss birth control to regulate my periods. Thank you so much once again and I will update you within the next few days with results. Thank you.

Hi Anonymous,

If you took two negative pregnancy tests, you should be in the clear. You may be having a stress induced late period and/or sometimes our bodies just miss periods for no apparent reason at all.

The most important thing is to try and reduce the stress in your life right now and I am certain your period will come along. I am also a person who has irregular periods and the Pill helped for many years but I had to stop taking them for other reasons. Since you already have irregular periods, you know that it is very hard to predict pregnancy and you may want to go to your physician to try and regulate them (to include reduce pregnancy risks).

I hope this information helps you relax. Can you keep us posted? As you have read many posts on this subject, your story will also help the next person.

Hi i have been reading these posts and think the responses have been beneficial therefore I would like to hear what you think about my story. I have been very worried the last few weeks about being pregnant. My boyfriend and I really do not want to be pregnant right now and I am very worried I possibly might be. My boyfriend and I had sex 4 times in the last month all using a condom. He only ejaculated inside me one time (still with a condom on) and the rest of the times he ejaculated outside of me. I do have some irregular periods and I am currently almost two weeks late on getting my period. I took a pregnancy test two days ago (so 11 days late) and got two clear negative pregnancy tests. I have been extremely stressed about being late and it is all I can think about. My breasts are slightly swollen and I have been getting some headaches but no other pregnancy symptoms. I am still very concerned even after two negative pregnancy tests. I am wondering what advice you have for me and what I should do next. I want to get my period very badly.

Hello, Ive been really worried for the past two wks. Worrying about being pregnant. At the end of almost every month I start to pay more attention to the coming of my period. I last had it may 28 and was supposed to get it at the end of june but is now the 9th of july. I am hoping is the stress and changes I've been having all in this month. I started getting back to working out at the begginning of the month. Then I had to plan a trip me and my family were going to take. The planning required booking the rental car, hotel and making sure we were going to have enough money for all. Then my car broke down sometime in the middle of the month. I will no longer put in extra money. So been carless since. Then we took a the trip hoping it would release some of the stress but it included some in the trip. A long drive by the way. So yes this is some of the stress I've been having and maybe I wouldn't be worried much if I knew there was no incident but there was one. One time after having sex my boyfriend who has a condom pulled away when done and then the condom went missing. He says he had it on when he came out but I'm afraid he is just saying that to not scare me. He assures me theres no way I can be pregnant because not once did he come inside me unprotected. I'm still very worried. Ive taken 3 tests all negative but wheres my period :'( Please help me

Hi Esca,

I think you are the one that requested assistance about your missed period and I apologize for the delay in answering your question as we tend to respond rather quickly. You are correct when you acknowledge that the pregnancy window of opportunity is only during ovulation and is short lived. If you were aware of your ovulation time and had intercourse after you ovulated you should be safe. Sperm can live in a womans body for 3 to 5 days so if you are using the rhythm method, you should always be aware of that. The withdraw method also works but remember that there is pre-ejaculate that a man releases which can also cause pregnancy.

Have to considered birth control?

Since you are highly stressing about the possibility of pregnancy, this may be causing your period to be delayed. As in my own experience, take a pregnancy test, get a negative result and your period will appear the next day. If you have already missed your regular period, you can take a test now. Can you keep us updated on the results?

I hope this helps and again, sorry for the delay.

to you who replied me, thank you so much for your opinion..i read that it's best to do pregnancy test 2weeks after your intercourse..to avoid false negative result..now has been 9 days only..i'll do the test another 5 days..do pray for me will you..i don't want to get pregnant yet..thank you again, for your experienced opinion..
