Dr. Hajduczek:
Well, obviously it’s an operation, and even though it’s uncommonly done, it’s still a fairly major operation, especially gastric bypass and sleeve LAP-BAND®, to a lesser extent, where some complications are possible.

So, patients are worried, especially hearing some horror stories over the years from different locations. They are afraid of complications and then possibly even death, the rate of which, however, is about 0.03 percent, meaning about one in three hundreds or more patients across the country, which includes mortality within 30 days, which usually, if it happens, happens due to pulmonary embolism. Obviously in-hospital mortality is almost unheard of and we haven’t had any.

Well, Tri-City became one of the first Bariatric Centers of Excellence several years ago, which basically means there is dedication on part of management, as well as nursing staff and all ancillary personnel to accommodate and give best service to bariatric patients.

Dr. Andrew Hajduczek was born and raised in Poland where he graduated from The Silesian Medical Academy and finished internship and surgical training (5 years). After immigrating to the United States, he completed internship and the surgical residency program at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA and started in busy private practice in the South Bay area in 1988. The scope of his practice included all aspects of general surgery (including laparoscopic – since 1990) as well as vascular and thoracic surgery. He served as Chief of Surgery in three hospitals (double terms after first being a Vice Chief there).
