Dr. Steinman explains if fillers are safe.

Dr. Steinman:
The current fillers are quite safe. The initial fillers were made out of collagen and some patients developed an allergic reaction to the collagens. Those types of fillers are no longer used. The primary side effects with fillers now are bruising. In extremely rare case as you might get swelling or slight infection. In my practice, I have yet have an infection from filler use and in some cases you can get little nodules or knots under the skin if the filler is not placed in the correct location. Again, dermatologists were the prime inventors of fillers so once you know the correct filler to recommend a patient and where to place that filler in their skin the risk of those nodules forming is very low.
