Dr. Gonzalez describes a woman's scar caused by the LAP-BAND® procedure.
Dr. Gonzalez:
The LAP-BAND® procedure or the REALIZE Band procedure, the scarring has small incisions. There are four incisions that are a quarter inch in size, and then there’s one incision that’s about an inch to an inch and a half in size. That is where the port is placed. These incisions are closed, what we call under the skin, like plastic surgery, and glue is placed on them in order to avoid any scarring. And then obviously there has to be some dependency on the patient’s healing properties to determine what type of scar will develop, but we would hope that over the next months and years, the scarring will fade.
