Dr. Gonzalez describes why women should join a support group once they have gone through gastric bypass surgery.
Dr. Gonzalez:
Well, support groups are very important after a gastric bypass surgery, and the reason for that is that, you have to see what other experiences others are going through, share your experiences, learn from others that had been through it a year, two years, three years prior to you.
It will help you prepare for the unexpected and those exchange of ideas and those issues that are brought up in the support groups, which are monthly support groups that we have here, that bring up different topics that are important to these patients on their recovery, whether it be their one-month recovery or their one-year or five-year recovery, those issues are important so that they will continue to educate the patient in their transition to a new life.
