Dr. Mansfield explains how patients can locate a doctor to improve their sleep apnea symptoms.

Dr. Mansfield:
Well, you can start with your family doctor. You know your family doctor can test you. They can send you to a lab or do a home sleep diagnostic study evaluating for your sleep apnea. If you then are identified as having sleep apnea, then there are a few specialty areas that are experts in managing sleep apnea. Of course ear, nose and throat specialists, by being experts in the windpipe and the throat are experts in managing sleep apnea.

Pulmonary doctors, lung specialists are experts in managing sleep apnea, and then there is a specialty board, the American Board of Sleep Medicine, that has specialists in it as well that are board-certified to read sleep studies. They are also experts in sleep medicine.
