Should you get the Shingles vaccine?
I'm former White House Doctor Connie Mariano with EmpowHER.
Shingles is a painful skin rash caused by the same virus which causes chicken pox, and now the CDC recommends anyone over the age of 60 get the shingles vaccine. That's because, the older you get, the more severe the symptoms.
Nearly one out of every three people will get shingles, and about one million Americans experience the unpleasant symptoms every year.
Anyone who has had chicken pox can get shingles. The chicken pox virus stays inside of your body, dormant and then for some unknown reason , that virus can wake up later on in life and cause shingles.
Nearly on half of those experiencing shingles are over the age of 60.
The only way to prevent shingles is to get the vaccine. The Zostavax vaccination is NOT reccomended for those with a compromised immune system.

What about good health and shingles will not wake up in the body. Vaccine is not the answer to every disease, but good nutrition and a clean body are.
