A risk factor is something that increases your chance of getting a disease or condition. Your risk of Reye's syndrome increases with:
- Age: 2 to 16 years old

Recent viral illness, including:
- Upper respiratory infection
- Influenza (the flu)
- Chickenpox
- Use of aspirin or other salicylates
