Two missed periods, negative pregnancy test, but pregnant like symptoms.

Hi,
I am only twenty one but I am thinking maybe I have an hormone imbalance? My periods are very regular and I have not had my period now for a few months. I have taken numerous pregnancy tests and all have come out negative. I do have pregnant like symptoms though such as weight gain, fatigue and headaches. I also have been extremely bloated recently and have been spotting. I was thinking maybe some of these are a sign of hormone imbalance...I generally eat pretty well and I try to get out and excersize regularly. I have had some mood swings and just over all feel like I am pms sing the whole past month and I have had an increase in my appetite ( I ussually eat small portions and find my self hungry way more often now though). Also I was very happy for about a month and recently am just neutral but that might have something to do with the fatigue I am experiencing now. Any ideas what could be wrong with me? I am sick of feeling like my period is going to happen every day and never having it actually happen!

Thank You in Advance.

Anon,

Pregnancy tests work to detect levels of a hormone called HCG in your urine. That hormone usually isn't present until about the time you miss your period. So testing before that time is usually just a waste of stress and money.

And most pregnancy symptoms do not start until around that time either. Some women do feel like they "know" they are pregnant even before they miss their period. But for most women, the fatigue, tender breasts, nausea or cravings don't kick in for a few weeks.

So it's too soon to tell anything, really, until you're late on your period. Does that help?

I'm confused. You said you had unprotected sex on April 9th, and your period is not expected until the end of the month. Which means, you need to wait until the end of the month before using the home pregnancy test in order for the results to be accurate.

Why have you been testing already?

Did you use the pregnancy test(s) as directed, and used the tests only after you've missed your period? Many women take the test too soon, and the results are not accurate.

When was the last time you took the test?
When were you expecting your period?
When was your last menstrual period (first day of bleeding)?
When did you have unprotected sex?

WAS Convinced I was pregnant, well three months later, no I am not. Here were my symptoms:
nausea (but I have had two kids and this nausea was in the middle of the day and just for an hour, not traditional pregnancy nausea)
lightheadness
weight gain
Oh and I reallly really want another baby.
So after my periods (yes I got periods for three months and still thought I was pregnant, rationalizing that they were light) So many negative pregnancy tests, went to doctor because I still had nasea and blood tests said no. It took me three months to realise I was not pregnant. i really do believe now that mind over body and I wanted to be pregnant so bad I had some of the symptoms, wow never want to go through that again

Anon,

Thank you for your honesty and for telling us about what must have been pretty painful for you. It's incredibly hard to want a baby and to feel the symptoms and then to be so disappointed. I appreciate you writing to us. How are you doing now?
