Two missed periods, negative pregnancy test, but pregnant like symptoms.

Hi,
I am only twenty one but I am thinking maybe I have an hormone imbalance? My periods are very regular and I have not had my period now for a few months. I have taken numerous pregnancy tests and all have come out negative. I do have pregnant like symptoms though such as weight gain, fatigue and headaches. I also have been extremely bloated recently and have been spotting. I was thinking maybe some of these are a sign of hormone imbalance...I generally eat pretty well and I try to get out and excersize regularly. I have had some mood swings and just over all feel like I am pms sing the whole past month and I have had an increase in my appetite ( I ussually eat small portions and find my self hungry way more often now though). Also I was very happy for about a month and recently am just neutral but that might have something to do with the fatigue I am experiencing now. Any ideas what could be wrong with me? I am sick of feeling like my period is going to happen every day and never having it actually happen!

Thank You in Advance.

Hi Anonymous,
It seems you are doing everything you are supposed to. You are not pregnant. It is possible your cycles are changing (hormone imbalance?), or you could have had a cyst that passed. Keep your appointment with your doctor to get a true diagnosis of what could be happening. You also may want to keep documenting your symptoms and menstrual cycle information so you can clearly explain it to your doctor as needed.
Your menstrual cycle also could be affected by changes in sleep patterns, diet and exercise. Anything there?
Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

I'd love to say that my cycle is off because of my sleep pattern, diet, or exercise but none of that has changed. My mother was diagnosed with cancer in her uterus when she was around my age and my sister has already had some issuses of her own. Honestly that is my biggest fear because I have not yet had children and very much want to someday.

Hi again,
I sincerely hope that it is not cancer. Please try and relax, and good luck at your appointment. Here is information about endometrial (uterine) cancer from the mayo clinic website, it shows the symptoms of endometrial cancer include:
-Vaginal bleeding after menopause
-Prolonged periods or bleeding between periods
-An abnormal, watery or blood-tinged discharge from your vagina
-Pelvic pain
-Pain during intercourse
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/endometrial-cancer/DS00306/DSECTION=symptoms
Like most cancers, if found early, it often can be treated effectively. Is your mother a cancer survivor? I know this must be scary for you. Please know that you are doing the right things, and getting your abnormal period checked out is the smartest thing you can do with your family history.
Good luck, and please come back to update us following your appointment next week.

I had my appointment today my pap came back normal. He thinks I might have a hormonal imbalance and wants me to keep a record of my menstratal cycles for 3 months to see if they regulate. Thank you for you're help and support.

Hi, I have had normal cycles since I started menstrating when I was 9yrs old I am now almost 27. I started my last period 3-2-11 and miss April completely, I should have started around the 3rd or 4th since I cycle around 28-30 days. The last week of March I started experiencing dizziness/weekness, tiredness, nausea, sensitive to smells, headaches more than usual and lower back pain but no cramping and I do get some of those symptoms with pms. I called my doctor and made an appointment to be seen when I was two weeks late because I've never gone more than a week even when my cycle has changed. I took a few HPT and they resulted in negative readings so did the test at the doctors office so they sent me to the lab to have a blood test, that too was negative she aslo did a pelvic exam which came back normal. My appointment was April19 a couple days after the appointment I started to notice tenderness in my breasts and my nipples were very sensitive so I thought ok maybe I'm about to start, nothing until 4-25 and then I had very light spotting. The spotting occurred on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and it was very light and almost unnoticeable Saturday mid-morning I "started my period" or so I thought. It wasn't heavy or normal at all it was very clotty and only lasted until Sunday night, Monday morning it was gone then I spotted a little Monday night and Tuesday morning. I have not had any other spotting since then, I called my doctor and made another appointment but the earliest they can get me in is next Thursday.

I forgot to mention that I am not on birth control because my obgyn says my risks out weigh the benefits due to the fact that I have borderline hypertension. When she ordered the blood test she also had the lab check my tyroid levels the pregnancy test was negative and the tyroid levels were normal. I have had no other health issues other than the hypertension, I have not been under any additional stress. I'm pretty sure the chances of me being pregnant are low but I'm just curious as to what else it could be because I have no idea and it's really starting to scare me.

Hi Anonymous,
When you use birth control pills as emergency contraception it can mess up your menstrual cycle. You may want to give your doctor's office a call and see what they suggest. Emergency contraception should not be your normal method of birth control. It is meant to be a "last resort"-type of method for when your normal method fails.
For more information, please review this article: Emergency Contraception Update, 2010.

Hi all,
I am actually writing bc in 2007 I went in for my normal GYN appointment and my doctor felt a lump. I was on Birth Control taken at the same time everyday, and used condoms (we really did not think we were ready for children). She ordered an ultrasound and I was told it was a cyst, at the same visit they did a preg test which came up neg. 2 weeks later i did a HPT because i still did not get my period and that came up neg as well. Well that "cyst" resulted in a wonderful little boy. I tested negative both in the office and at home at 4 and 6 weeks preg. I did not find out until I was 12 weeks along when I went in for a consult to have surgery to address the cyst.. The poor US tech got a horrified look on her face when she asked "why are you here again" My point demand your provider listen to you, BC can fail and PT can be wrong ANYTIME you don't feel right go and get it check out!

Hi, well period finally came,it was two weeks late, all seems to be normal but I can't describe how much better I feel. Those were the worst mood swings I've ever had. Thanks for the support!
