Are there steps one can take before giving birth to prevent depression? Diet, vitamins, etc. Thanks

Good Source of information provided by Alysia.

I recently read an article in TIME magazine called "Afterbirth: It's what's for dinner". I had heard about some mothers eating their placenta after birth to prevent PPD, but never even considered this for me. I am not suggesting that you try this, just a resource of what some use as a preventative measure.

Before clicking on the link, I must warn you-- there is a video and although you have to click play for it to start if you have a weak stomach you may not be interested in anything other than reading a humorous article by Joel Stein about his wife's "hippie ways".

I am glad Kristin's story on PPD is available and hope it is useful!

Our own Kristin Davis shared her story about how she prevented PPD after the birth of her second child.

As far as diet, vitamins, etc., I wouldn't know. Perhaps Kristin's story will help point you in the right direction. If you suspect you may be a candidate for PPD, by all means speak to your doctor and, perhaps, a counselor, so that you and your family will be prepared, recognize the signs and know what to do to help you.
