Laura introduces herself and recalls when she understood that she had a weight problem.
Laura:
Hi, I am Laura, and I am a patient of Dr. Dahiya’s. I had gastric bypass surgery in November and I currently have lost 76 pounds.
I first realized I had a problem with weight after my third child. Actually, prior to that I would fluctuate back and forth 10-15 pounds, but after my third child I had real difficulties getting the weight off.
After my third child, it was harder to get the weight off because I think we did a lot of fast food. With three children you are busy; you are working, and there’s not a whole lot of time to cook healthy, and so we would fast food it a lot, unhealthy meals basically, and eating on the run all the time.
I feel like my metabolism slowed down, and I was always tired. I never had a lot of energy, and I think it seems like the heavier you get, the less energy you have; easier to just lay around.
Not only are you sluggish because the weight is on, you fall into a depression, and I think you get depressed. It’s easier just to lay around. It’s easier not to fix yourself up; you don’t want to. You don’t want to draw attention to yourself as a heavy person, so you kind of fall into a slump.
