She had lost about 100 pounds in a year and of course that was very gratifying for her, but really the success of her is not so much the fact that she lost weight.
It’s the fact that when she came to see us she was a single mom. She didn’t have a job. She really had a lot of health issues that are directly associated with obesity and she had a lot of questionable eating habits.
So when she saw us we worked with her. We got her to make better food choices. The defining moment was when she said to me that the reason she came to see me was her 5-year-old son said, “I can’t get my arms around you mom.” And that for her was an epiphany, that’s the reason that she decided it was time to come and see the doctor.
So she came to see us. We fixed her eating habits. We got her in an exercise program. We did a Lap Band on her. Sure enough she has lost 100 pounds, but it’s more than that.
She has a much better relationship with her son. She has found a job. It’s not unusual that when people lose weight their pursuit is being much more successful.
She is now engaged to be married and all these things happen as a direct result, not necessarily of her having a LAP-BAND®, but of her empowering herself, of her deciding that she was going to take control of her life.
