Dr. McLucas shares the link between artificially ingested estrogen and fibroids.

Dr. McLucas:
First of all, we don’t know whether birth control pills taken before the menopause are a cause that stimulates or suppresses fibroids. We just don’t know. There is people who say both.

After the menopause there was a, I guess you could call it an urban myth that if I make it to the menopause, I won’t have fibroids anymore. They will shrink and go away. We found that there’s two sources of estrogen that women have, that make that an urban myth. One, the fat tissue that we all have excretes an estrogen-like substance that causes fibroids, in many patients, to continue to grow. Secondly, if a woman takes estrogen replacement therapy, the fibroids usually grow with that therapy.
