Hi my name is Vickie, I'm 36yrs old and looking for treatment and support group's to help me with PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrom) I will start from the beginning.

I was 11yrs old and had my period. When I was 16 I had to go and see a OBGYN due to heavy periods and painful one's. I was put on birth control at that point. I stayed on them until age 22 when my husband and I wanted to have a child. Well at age 18 I was with my husband and had the most painful sex ever. From that point on I went to OBGYN's for answer's and got no answer's. When I went off the pill it took me one year to get pregnant. The 2nd month I had a misscarge. Than 3 month's later I was pregnant with my son, Brandon.

Brandon was born premature by 10 weeks. He had problem's,Asthma, reflux, hole on the heart and brain. When he was school age he had learning disabilities and was put in a Special Ed program and to this day he is still in one and having problem's learing. Brandon was diagnosed at age 10 now 11 Junaville Diabetes Type 1 Insulin dependant. When Brandon was 5yrs old I wanted to have a 2nd child.

I was told that I have PCOS by a GYN. He told me to follow up with an OBGYN and that he or she would be able to help me with treatment. I went to 3 OBGYN's and all just wanted to put me on Birth control. I would refuse because, I wanted to become pregnant again. I did not know much about this disorder and the serious of it. My husband and I just wanted to have a child without medication. So, we left without any help. We said "if it was meant to be it would just happen". Well it never did and life passed us by. We are at peace without the idea that we are not going to have another child. It has been 3 yrs since I've seen an OBGYN, due to the frustration that I have from getting no where with them...!!!

My husband and I just want to take care of me and get treatment for PCOS. I've been on the Internet for the pass month looking on issues that I currently have and got worse this yr. I see that the PCOS is invading my body. I've reached out to a local Hospital in the area. I had entered Pelvic and sex pain in there site and it leaded me to a PT contact . She was able to give my 2 out of area Dr's that could help me. I do not have coverage there and than asked that they find me a Dr that understand's and can treat PCOS. They gave my the GYN that I went to 5yrs ago. I will be seeing him this Monday am. I will see where that goes'. I did not find EmpowHer until after I set this up.

I will update my story as I learn more this Monday 12/14/09.

Update....12/15

Well for all that follow me....I went to the Dr and my overies are loaded with cysts lg and sm. My walls are very thick he said. He did tell me that I was bleeding and that he would need for me to go to a OBGYN and get a pap smear ASAP. He needed to put me on birth control to stop the bleeding for now. He had me go for blood work and will need to see me 12/30/09. I have the OBGYN appointment at 2pm tomorrow. On 12/30 Dr will be doing a test threw the vagina and collect some samples. The name of the test is fuzzy and I can not remember what it is called (was a very long name).

He did ask me to think about if I'm going to conceive or if I'm finished. At this point I wish that I had another child but, I've being dealing with this for 16yrs already. I'm 36 and my son now is 11 1/2 yrs old. My heart is broken but, I need to get ride of the monster before it takes me!

I'm scared of Cancer at this point....anyone have any ideas what the Dr may be thinking @ this point?

Update 12/18/09 from OBGYN....

Well, I have to say I'm a happy lady but still scarred. I love my new OBGYN...!!! They spent 1 hr with me. They explained alot about PCOS and the different things that are or may be going on inside of me.

First she is happy with what the other DR's are doing so, that is a plus. Dr is sending me to have my blood work done to see where my Vitamin D level's are at. Dr has noticed lately that he is finding that women's level's are down alot and with the taking a vitamin D supplement made a big difference to feel better. Dr said, " that my be one of the reason's for me being so tired all the time". Dr has asked that I take a women's multi vitamin and Omega 3's daily. Dr was able to do a pap smear, I will get that result in 1-2 weeks. I may not need to stay on birth control. They are just using that to control the bleeding for now. He also has me going for a breast evaluation ,seeing that breast cancer run's so heavy in both sides of my immediate family... I have this test today. I will update you when I found out more.

PCOS Update 1/17/10...Well it has been awhile since I last updated, a lot has gone on. Well to make a long story short I had the pap smear it was fine, no problem's. I was trying to get a biopsy done but, I had so much bleeding over 3 weeks that the Dr had no choice but to do and emergency D&C this past Tuesday. I was up to 4 birth control pills a day to control the bleeding and changing my pad 2-3 times an hr. I should have the results of all the testing by 1/18/10. I will update all than :)

PCOS Update 1/18/10

Well I'm happy to say the test result's came back and there are no signs of anything....Thank Goodness...!!! I was told that I will need to call my OBGYN and set up to have an ablation done ASAP. I am back to changing my pad once every 2 hrs and I'm back up to 2 birth control pills a day. I will update later this week again.
