Nurse Ruth discusses the advantages of in-home kidney dialysis.

Ruth:
Hi, my name is Ruth Gray and I am RN. I am affiliated with Tempe Dialysis, which is Southwest Kidney DaVita, and I work with the home hemodialysis department there.

We train patients in doing their own dialysis at home, same as in-center except that it’s at home on a different machine.

The advantages to in-home dialysis are very unique. They allow the patient to pick their own time to run and work it into their lifestyle.

It allows them more autonomy as far as knowing what they want to do, how they want to spend their life, things they can do that they might not get to do if they didn’t feel as well they feel better at home.

Their restrictions are lot less at home. An example is dietary as well as physical activity choices are really important and that’s one of the things that we talk about in their training, what all they can do.
