The site where I was bitten swelled up, itched horrible and was very tender to the touch which made the itching that much worse. It had a knot under it that grew to almost golf ball size.. After about two and a half weeks, it finally healed.. About a month later, the same site started itching and swelled up again some, It took a lot of self control to keep from itching and it went away in about a week. Well, it's back again!!! Help! Why does it keep coming back? I have no other symptoms other than the uncomfortable itch and if I scratch, I know it will swell up again, I can already feel the knot forming under the skin. ???

It may have left something in there, like a tick can leave its head...why you want to make it back out,a bee can leave it's stinger. See a doctor!

I've had recurrent symptoms after being bitten by a brown recluse spider 9 years ago. Yes, it has lasted that long ! Was only recurring 2-3 times a year for about a week at a time, now occurring more often, as every 6 weeks. No open sores or pus, just a large raised quarter-sized area that has intense itching for about 2-3 days. Best thing I've found to do: as soon as itching is noticed, apply Benadryl cream to area covered with a bandaid, and change it twice daily. Absolutely no itching unless you want a hematoma. If the skin becomes open or broken, replace the Benadryl with Neosporin ointment. Nothing else (steroids, antibiotics, oral antihistamines) seems to make the week-long cycle any shorter. Also noticed the affected area can move around within an space the size of my hand, so may indicate a toxin that can spread under the subcutaneous or through the lymphatic system).

Hi my bite keeps coming back every now and again with the same symptoms, it's now 4 years ago since I first got bit on the back of my leg, I did have antibiotics for two weeks , I also went to my doctors and she done a Lyme test over 2 years ago and that came back negative. I still don't understand it and it drive's me mad when it appears for a few hours every 3 to 5 months, I've even taken photo's as proof as it's difficult to get an appointment at the time it appears? I would appreciate any advice , thanks

I am not a physician. I have not examined the insect bite. Please call your physician to be evaluated. Your health is priceless and I cannot tell you if this is dangerous to your health or just an annoyance.

Thank you :) Do you know if this is dangerous to my health or is it just annoying? So far it's annoying because I never know when it's going to resurface and the itching is awful! also, it seems each time it does, it lasts a little longer.

Hi,
September 30, 2011 - 4:22pmThis is a repeated inflammatory response to the initial insect bite. You need to be evaluated by a dermatologist. I don't think this will go away on without intervention.
