Q:

Is there such a thing as too much sleep?

On a normal "school night" I get somewhere between 6-8 hours of sleep a night. The other day I got about 9 hours and was SO TIRED the whole day! But when I get 6 or less I'm more awake. What does this mean? Is there such a thing as too much sleep? And can you actually "catch up" on sleep you may have missed during the weekend for example?

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER. The amount of sleep we need depends on age and activity level as well as your health and lifestyle habits. During times of stress our body may require more sleep. Most experts recommend that adult should sleep between 7-9 hours each night. But, not everyone is the same and do not require the same amount of sleep in order to feel good the next day. This might be your case. Hope this helps?

Best,

Daisy
