my brother in law had his prostate removed because of cancer 3 yrs ago. now they are saying his PSA number is up, and might need radiation. If he has no prostate, what are they radiating? and if he doesnt get the treatment, what's the consequences? what are they treating? and how do you get an elevated psa, without a prostate???

The elevated PSA level may be indicative of metastatic cancer.
The oncologist will most likely order a bone scan to check for metastasis. Once the site is identified, that area will be treated with radiation therapy.
The consequence of no treatment is the cancer will continue to spread.
