If you are taking thyroid replacement medication it is important that you take them with water 1 hour before eating or 2-3 hours after eating. No coffee or tea while waiting for breakfast. If you are taking calcium or other supplements wait at 2-3 hours after taking your hormone replacement tablet. Be careful of the orange juice you drink. Check to see if it has calcium or not. If you happen to forget to take a pill one day DO NOT take 2 the next day.
What thyroid concerns do you have???

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Depending on the type of Thyroid condition you have.

Treatments for Hyperthyroidism

Thyroid hormone production can be suppressed or halted completely in these ways:

  • Radioactive iodide treatment
  • Antithyroid medication
  • Surgery

Treating Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism calls for a lifelong regimen of thyroid replacement. No surgical techniques or conventional drugs can increase the thyroid's hormone production once it slows down. Although hormones from animal extracts are available, doctors generally prescribe synthetic forms of thyroid hormone, such as levothyroxine.
