Hi, Fay. Thank you so much for writing back.
I need to know what is possible for you. Are you in a wheelchair? Or can you get around a little bit?
Would it work for you to order some exercise DVDs that you could do in your home? There are some DVDs that even feature chair and sitting exercises. You can burn plenty of calories even if you can't stand much. While many of them are, indeed, marketed to seniors, they may still be the most helpful to you because they are made for people who have restricted movement. Here are three that are based on seniors, exercise and rehab, for instance:

Can you do yoga?
Might your doctor prescribe some physical therapy for you, to get you started learning some exercises that would help you in flexibility and in weight loss?
Is there a swimming pool anywhere in Coonoor? Perhaps associated with a school, a college, a hotel or a hospital? I am wondering if they would allow you to swim a couple of times a week when the pool is not otherwise busy with other people. Swimming is a wonderful low-impact activity that helps with both osteoarthritis and weight loss.
Are any of these things possibilities for you?

Fay,
It looks like your question got cut off. Can you tell us more?
How much weight do you need to lose? What medical condition is your doctor talking to you about?
Do you have a weight loss plan yet, or are you hoping we can help with that?
Please tell us more and we'll be happy to help you.

Hi,
Yes I did get cut off in mid sentance. Had no idea that this message was sent.
Anyhow. I need to lose 10 to 15 kgs. My weight is effecting two conditions that I have. One is Oestheo - Arthirittus [ will I ever learn how to spell ?]and the other is some vague heart problem which is new and still under investigation.
Live in a small town in the mountains in Coonoor, India and need to go to city with suitable medical facilites to do further tests for heart. This will be next week.
In the meantime - cannot walk due to aches and pains and low back ache [slipped disc history for 20 years now] So I find it difficult to burn off the calories. Am trying to eat less but this does not work.
Have looked up many exercises on the internet but most of them I cannot do and the ones I can are just for the elderly. I am 70 and uptil two years ago was extremely active. Have two large dogs and walks were essential. Now the dogs sit around with me all day.
November 26, 2009 - 8:59pmHusband has COPD and is on oxygen 12 - 14 hours so he cant do much. Most of my time is spent on looking after his needs.
Sorry to have gone on like this but I think that it is essential to give all the details.
Thanks for any advice that anybody can give.
Fay
