I never taken birtj control before this. They started me on a pack and I had the usual symptoms: breast tenderness, fatigue. But it wasnt that bad.

Before BC, I never spot. I would cramp the day before, then have 3 days of heavy flow and then its done

On the second to last active pill, I started spotting. I skipped the placebo days and started on my new pack on time. I spotted for two days then suddenly started my period. I did some digging and they said this could be normal, but its been 6 days of constant heavy bleeding and cramping with no end in sight.

I never missed a pill or took one late. I also didnt start the placebos. Is this normal for the first month or do I need to change my bc?

Guide

Hello. Thank you for your message.

Irregular bleeding is a common side effect of birth control pills, especially during those first few months. If you find a little bit of blood on a random day you take one of your pills, you most likely have nothing to worry about. A heavy/longer period is also common the first month. That said, if bleeding is excessive or seems abnormal to you, you can always ease your mind by checking in with your doctor to make sure everything is okay. It will usually level off in a month or two.
