I'm as young 68,I ski, ride horses, and am very active. Due to and old ski injury, and surgery to remove bone spurs last Feb.,I can barely walk. The surgery did not help. No help from the Dr. My life has changed. I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had a ankle replacement, and if the surgery was successful. I do have advanced osteoarthritis in my ankle joint. i do continue to work out 2-3 times a week even if it hurts. I do believe the mind body connection does work. i have tried acupuncture, physical therapy, Aleve. The aleve does help, but I know that it is not good for me.

I want to thank EmpowerHer for the information by Dr. Horton. I have seen 5 Doctors regarding fusion and ankle replacement, and learned more from Dr. Horton than I have from all other Doctor's combined. Has anyone had a fusion or replacement from Dr. Horton. I do not know anything about his practice. I do live in California and understand he is from San Diego.
After hearing him, I feel hopeful that a replacement might work for me, especially because I'm active. Any additional information would be helpful.
Any other specialist in the Bay area that people has used for ankle replacements?
Thanks agin for your help

Hi,
Thank you for your question! There have been many women on EmpowHER discussing options or sharing their stories related to ankle fusion, but I have only found a few posts regarding ankle replacement surgery.
While we wait to hear from other women who can talk with you about their personal experience with ankle replacement surgery, here are some discussions I found on EmpowHER (one from a Medical Expert, Dr. Horton):
