Prolonged Vicodin use is more commonly associated with addiction and several other side effects such as mental and physical dependence in which your body becomes used to the drug and it no longer has the pain killing effect.

Vicodin is as opiate and is addictive. Your question about making your arthritis worse is probably not the case. After long term use, the effect is minimized and therefore your pain may increase.

How long have you been using Vicodin?
