Dr. Georgiou recalls the attributes that are common amongst empowered patients.

Dr. Georgiou:
Hi, I am Dr. Archelle Georgiou and I am a healthcare consultant that works with people, with the media, through my consulting and through my website to help them be better consumers of healthcare and to be empowered patients.

An empowered patient is someone who really believes that they are in charge of their healthcare. It means that they are educated about what conditions they have; how to take care of themselves. They ask questions. They are not afraid to be a partner with their doctor about what their treatment plan is or how to get the best quality of care.

So an empowered patient doesn’t mean that they are on their own making their own diagnosis, but rather they are perfectly comfortable being a partner with clinical professionals in the healthcare system to make sure they get the best care that they possibly can.

About Dr. Archelle Georgiou, M.D.:
Dr. Archelle Georgiou combines her deep knowledge of clinical medicine with a breadth of experience in business and health care administration to pursue her passion for simplifying the health care system. I myself appreciate all the information EmpowerHer has given me and it is so true that knowledge is power.I always took to trying to find out what it was that was making me unhealthy and had received 2nd opinions if MD's or other medical professionals advice didn't feel right with me.Everyone should be able to speak up and ask questions about their health.Today I find more Doctors are willing to work with their patients to find the right treatment for them and to me that is Empowering. We have come a long way.
