I really wanted to join the challenge but have been unable to. After being out of work for quit some time and finally taking on a job less than 40hrs a week at min. wage with no medical benefits I cannot afford to go to weight watchers or even visit a Dr for a check up. This is unfair I am not so much thinking I can with the million as much as I would like to participate. Were does that leave the rest of us?!

Hi Anon,

You do not have to join weight watchers in order to participate in the challenge. Weight Watchers is sponsoring the challenge so naturally you'll see a lot of advertising to join but it is definitely NOT a requirement. You do, however, have to get a physical exam done and this can be done at a clinic or pharmacy--it does not have to be at the doctors' office. If you cannot afford to pay a doctor's visit, community clinics and pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid all have a health screening that is either free or very inexpensive in cost. Simply print out the form and take it with you. Once you get the form printed just log back in to your account and log it in for your personalized recommendations. Please don't let the WW marketing throw you off-- you do not have to join and they will do your initial and final weigh-ins free of charge--regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

I seen the show today and thought what a brillant idea to help people lose weight to keep healthy and feel good about themselves.I am from Canada,Ontario in the Toronto area. I hope people take this seriously and join Dr Oz's Transformation Nation, weight watchers have come a long way and seem to be on the right track on a sensable approach to managing weight loss. Unfortunately I will continue my 8lb challenge alone I am doing good and eating healthy. I cannot afford to join any weight clinic but finding out how to get proper excerise as I challenge myself. It is an interesting way for me to see how different everyday has been for me since Sept 9/2011.

Hi Willalee,

I agree-- it is a great approach to get our nation to a healthier weight. It's also a great marketing campaign for weight watchers although you do not have to join to be part of the challenge and they do share many success stories.

Good luck on your 8lb weight loss journey and please do keep us posted when you reach it!
