could you be making these 7 weight loss mistakes? Christopher Boswell/PhotoSpin

If you are like many people you are considering a weight loss program since it is the beginning of the year. I want to share some common mistakes that I see in patients all the time.

Skipping meals doesn't help you lose weight

Eating breakfast is essential for setting your metabolism for the day. People that eat breakfast tend to have more energy during the day. Breakfast eaters are more likely to exercise than people who skip breakfast. Eating breakfast prevents you from overeating later in the day, which also causes weight gain instead of weight loss.

Mindless snacking

Snacking during a weight loss plan is important. Mindless snacking during the day with unhealthy foods is not. Planning your meals and snacks to include whole foods and appropriate calorie count can revy up your metabolism.

Choosing (too many) low-fat or reduced-fat snacks

If a snack is low-fat or reduced-fat that doesn’t mean that you can eat twice or three times a many during your dieting process.

Drinking too little water

Water is essential for metabolic reactions needed for losing weight. If you don’t drink enough water you can’t burn calories and you will not release toxins.

Drinking your calories

Alcohol often contains more calories than you think. Sweet tasting drinks that contain fruit juices along with alcohol can pack on the calories in drinks. Another type of drink to look out for are the fancy coffee drinks with flavors, pumps, syrups and the like. These drinks can contain more calories than a meal or snack.

Weighing yourself daily

Weekly or bi-weekly weigh-ins constitute more realistic timeframes to make sure you are achieving your goal in a health way.

Trying to lose weight by yourself

When you participate in a weight loss group program you are more likely to lose weight because you have the support and experiences of other members of the group.

If you are interested in losing weight consider joining my three-month weight loss program. It is focused on creating simple lifestyle and eating changes that you will easily add to your life and lose weight at the same time. This proven program helps prevent you from making the weight loss mistakes and supports you in achieving their goals.

Really liked this article- especially the point about drinking too little water! That's very important for weight-loss. It helps our metabolism get going, as well as fills us up so we are not tempted to eat those sugary snacks we all love! It's best to try and drink half your body weight in water each day! :)
