If you’re trying to lose weight, you’re often told to lay off the margaritas and the draft beers, but some recent research suggests a molecule found in beer may actually help in the fight against weight gain.

In a study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, researchers found that a molecule found in milk and beer helped mice gain less weight when fed a high-fat diet. The molecule also seems to play a part in increasing endurance in mice. The molecule, which researchers believe works by influencing cells' mitochondria, also didn't seem to have any side effects when consumed in high doses.

The researchers say this specific molecule may very well be found in other food and beverages that we consume daily and that if it works the same in humans as they’re finding in mice, this natural compound could allow for better and healthy aging.
