I am a PhD II student at University of Western Ontario in Canada. Having specialized in English (honors) with a focus in India Studies, I hold a BA from University of Connecticut. In addition, I have also completed two masters in South Asian Studies (with a graduate certificate in Women's Studies) from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and another Master's degree in Women's Studies and Feminist Research from University of Western Ontario. My current research focuses on the representations of violence against women since 1947 in India, especially with a focus on the themes of silence and honour and how they are represented since 1947 to present in India's popular culture. My interest in this topic was deeply influenced by the 2012 Delhi Rape Case. In addition to my professional academic career, I have a blog called Cultural Critic in Making and am a paid contributor to Canada's popular and most read South Asian magazine, Anokhi Media where I write on social issues, concerning women and also on entertainment. For fun, I have a lovely family and an adorable boy friend, Mike with whom I spend my free time and learn about fast cars (cos he is a gear-nut)!
