The Importance of Sleep Part 1

One of the questions that I ask all my patients is do you wake up refreshed in the morning followed by how many times do you hit the snooze before getting out of bed. It is interesting that many patients actually answer yes to feeling refreshed in the morning yet will hit the snooze several times before finally getting out of bed. I find that an interesting contradiction. When I ask about being refreshed what I am really asking is in the morning do you have the energy to wake up and be prepared to started your day the moment that you open your eyes? When my patients say yes I am thinking that they have charged their bodies from a good nights rest and they are ready to begin their day, physically, emotionally and spiritually. When the person answers that they hit the snooze button one or more times during the day before they finally decide to get out of the bed it gives me information about readiness to begin their day. Most often with a few more questions that I can determine whether it is an issue related to the quality of their sleep or weather they need to make changes to be more enthusiastic about the quality of their life. (We will save the quality of life topic for another blog). If I can identify that hitting the snooze button is due to their sleep pattern we can then focus on improving the quality of their sleep which inevitably with improve the quality of their health, creating a refreshed morning every morning. In the next several blogs we will talk about the components required to create a good restful restorative sleep that allows my patients to wake up refreshed each morning. Until then live vibrantly,
