Dr. Clark describes why it is important for young women to be encouraged to learn about their sexuality and not be afraid of it.
Dr. Clark:
I think the, providing the openness and the acceptance, but this would have to come from the whole society, as well as parents, because there is such a lot of universal judgementalness regarding female sexuality and to address it, you really have to provide, you know, the cultural and other supports that would give the female permission to have sex as a physical, to see it and appreciate it as a physical experience because it’s a fact that sex is physical, and to teach a young girl an incorrect information almost saying that it’s all about love and it’s all about feelings.
I think females do have a tendency to fall in love and have an emotional response to things and that’s perfectly fine. That’s how we, we need our emotions in dealing with young children and the female throughout history, you know, we bare and raise children. So, we need that, the emotions to deal with children who are not reasoning until they are 6 or 7.
So, that’s a quality, a very positive aspect that we have. But I think it’s a disservice to not teach the female the reality that sex is a physical experience, and to, so that she can learn about that and/or somebody else is going to teach her about it. She can learn about it for herself and explore it and make choices that she is responsible for those choices.
