Former White House Doctor Connie Mariano returns to reveal the added benefits later in life to having your newborn son circumcised after birth.

Should you circumcise your sone?

The are many medical reasons for saying yes.

I'm former White House Doctor Connie Mariano with EmpowHER.

While circumcision remains a personal decision for many parents, there is now some overwhelming medical evidence that shows the procedure can significantly reduce the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the CDC, clinical studies show circumcision reduces a man's risk of HIV during penile-vaginal intercourse.

But that's not all.

Uncircumcised men show an increased risk of genital ulcer disease, chlamydia, urinary tract infections, penile cancer, and cervical cancer for women who are partnered with uncircumcised men.

Studies also show an increased risk of HPV, the human papilomavirus, syphilis, and chancroid.

Now there are additional costs and risks associated with circumcision. And the procedure in no way should be considered a substitute for condoms and other safe sex practices.

But in my opinion and the CDC's, a little snip is well worth the risk.

I'm Dr. Connie Mariano for EmpowHER; To ask any question or for more information visit EmpowHER.com.

Circumcision causes lifelong harm. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2002/06/prweb41148.htm

"Using sensitivity analysis, it was impossible to arrange a scenario that made neonatal circumcision cost-effective. Neonatal circumcision is not good health policy, and support for it as a medical procedure cannot be justified financially or medically." http://mdm.sagepub.com/content/24/6/584.abstract

" Looking closely at the interaction of HIV and Langerhans cells, they found that the cells "donotbecome infected by HIV-1, because the cells have the protein Langerin on their cell surface," Geijtenbeek said. "Langerin captures HIV-1 very efficiently, and this Langerin-bound HIV-1 is taken up (a bit like eating) by the Langerhans cells and destroyed."

In essence, Geijtenbeek said, "Langerhans cells act more like a virus vacuum cleaner." " http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/05/AR2007030500357_pf.html

"Langerhans Cells These specialized epithelial cells are a component of the immune system in the penis.

There is no known method of restoring Langerhans cells to the penis.

Circumcision is child abuse, pure and simple.

Circumcision is a "treatment" in search of a problem since the 1800s when it was recommended to prevent masturbation, paralysis, and a host of diseases. All of those conditions, and the ones described in this video, have been repeatedly debunked.
If circumcision is so good at preventing sexually transmitted disease, why is it still necessary to wear a condom? The condom is the only actual protection.
Also, there is no reason to cut off parts of an *infant* to reduce the risk of STDs. If a man wants to remove part of his penis in order to potentially make unprotected sex slightly less risky, let the man decide that for himself when he is of age.

Everything in this video has been debunked over the past few years. I'm surprised any self respecting doctor would still defend it.

Circumcision is a crime against human rights. You do not prevent liver cancer by removing the liver of a baby. All named effects on health could be achieved if the informed and grown man would take the decision for himself.

Besides the AAP no other medical association supports circumcision on men without their explicit given consent.

I am a woman who did not question circumcision most of my life until my husband began having sexual difficulties before reaching the age of 40. Now that I have learned about the extensive harm that circumcision causes, I am persuaded that it is harmful and the possible benefits are overblown. I'm not a new-age, anti-medicine kind of person. I'm pro-vaccination and I appreciate the many gifts that modern medicine has brought us.

If I have a baby son, I will elect not to circumcise.
