Dr. LeWinter shares the heart symptoms women generally experience.

Dr. LeWinter:
Well, the symptoms are, although in some areas symptoms do differ, in heart failure they really don’t differ a great deal, as far as I am aware, and heart failure is caused by an inability of the heart to pump enough blood, particularly under stressful conditions. And the most common symptom of heart failure is shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, which may occur just during exercise. With more severe heart failure, it can occur at rest, and so that’s the most common symptom.

Other symptoms are swelling, edema of the legs, fatigue, things like that, but the most common, by far, symptom is shortness of breath.
