How to Maintain Your Closure for Long-Lasting Use
To keep your hair looking naturally beautiful, you have to treat the most delicate portion of your installation properly. High-quality lace pieces are a great investment to create confidence; however, since they are handmade and delicate, it can be very hard to maintain them. If you have been wondering how to properly care for your closure to ensure that it lasts, the secret is to be gentle and consistent.
Tension, either from brushing too vigorously or aggressively scratching your head, can be a serious threat to your hair. Every time you gently brush or scratch your scalp, you’re increasing the likelihood that you will pull individual strands through the mesh. To maintain the fullness of your closure and eliminate those unwanted bald spots, use a soft-bristle brush or wide-tooth comb at all times. Start at the tips of the hair and move slowly toward the base, ensuring you never tug at the knots where the hair meets the lace.
Hydration is your next priority. Since the hair on your lace doesn't benefit from your scalp’s natural oils, it can become brittle over time. Lightly mist the hair with a silk-based serum or a water-based moisturiser to maintain its elasticity. When you're retiring for the evening, you must cover your hair with a silk scarf (this is essential). If you do not cover your hair with silk, every time you toss and turn throughout the night, it will rub against the pillowcase, creating frizz, tangling and dryness. By treating your closure in this manner, it will last longer than if you didn't do this, and it will retain that clean salon look for a longer time.
