Experiencing anxiety attacks - frustrated and scared!!!

By October 18, 2012 - 11:01pm

I found this group while researching anxiety attacks, of which I have been suffering from for the past 1.5 weeks. I've had heart testing which was normal and I've been taking (generic) Xanax which I doubt is helping me. I am going for gyn/hormonal testing tomorrow. I haven't been able to go back to work as each day is a new test of my well being and I've only had 2 or so "good" days. I am soooo frustrated in dealing with this. Therapist and friends believe my anxiety is stemming from the past year's movement of relocation with my job and all the changes associated with that. I agree to a certain extent but I think (and hope) it's moreso menapausal issues tied in with life's stressors? Meanwhile, the attacks seem to be coming more frequent and move severe in nature. I'm thankful for my family and friends supporting me thru this but I'm also tired of dragging them into my panics (talking to someone calms the panic down) I am sooo frustrated and just coming off of an attack - had to vent here. It doesn't appear I'm alone in this suffering?

Hi Msladygee,
Thanks for sharing your story, let me just tell you, your not alone. I'm a young mother of 2 boys a 4year old, and a 1 year old. Your story is so much like mine. I was diagnose with anxiety/panic attacks February 2012. I know exactly how you feel, there might be times when you feel like your going crazy, and you fear the little things. I'm sure your in the right path and you will be fine. Your doing the right things by getting therapy and taking medication. I decided to not do any medication, and it was very hard for me to get out of my depression. You need to stay postive and have faith of yourself. Don't let your fears and negativity get to you. Just wanted to tell you your not alone, many of us out there go through this.

Take care and may god bless you.

I know exactly what you are saying. Until 3 years ago, I had never experienced an anxiety/panic attack. At 51, I thought I was losing my mind. I had my hormones checked and they came back normal but I was having awful hot flashes, insomnia, night sweats and I stopped having my period. I took HRT but that did not help. After trying 3 different antidepressants I was put on Cymbalta and after a few months I was doing a great deal better. I went off the Cymbalta and was all right for about a year but I have started having anxiety again. It is so hard to deal with for me. I look for answers and others to talk to who have been through the symptoms I have. Thank you for sharing this story. It helps to know you are not alone in this.

Hi Msladygee, sounds like you are doing all the right things. You are seeing a therapist, you have a good support system with your family and friends and you are on medication. I do know that the symptoms can be so uncomfortable that you want them gone ASAP but it takes time and patience and working through the techniques that I am sure your therapist is sharing with you. I will encourage you NOT to give up as you work through this. It can be overcome as long as don't give up or resign. A book that I have found helpful is Master your Panic by Denise Beckfield.
