Has anyone had success with acupuncture for fibromyalgia?

Just curious

My husband has had a little acupuncture for fibro and it helped. Didn't eliminate the pain but it reduced it for a time.

I have acupuncture for CFS and have found it to be helpful. In the early months it would leave me in a deep CFS fog afterwards and I'd have to go to bed for a couple of days to recover. Of course, back then a trip to the grocery store would do that to me too.

My second acupuncture visit triggered PMS (which is something I never was prone to) and a full-blown period -- a year after my periods had stopped in menopause. My naturopath said this was a good sign, that the effect of the acupuncture was reaching deep into my endocrine system or something to that effect. (This was 3 yrs ago and I may not have the details right.:) But I definitely remember having a period complete with cramps and the blues. Just that one time, but it was a beaut.

Acupuncture keeps my right arm and right hand functional -- otherwise I tend to have alot of pain, swelling and stiffness there. Monthly needles keep it at bay.

Like Tina, I have had e-stim for chronic allergies/sinus trouble. I haven't needed it for over two months. The supplements my chiropractic/wellness doctor has me on have seemingly done the trick to get my immunity charged up so I don't get allergic symptoms as much. I had a complete blood test done to identify deficiencies and sensitivities, etc.
Supplements: Sinatrol, a multi-vitamin, B12, and vitamin D. I happily report I haven't been sick since the winter months, when I started this therapy. Tried D-Hist, but it didn't do much for me, so I decided to chalk it up to "everyone's different," and stick with Sinatrol. When I'm out of it, I use turmeric as much as I can since it's a major component.

I have fibro and RA and I have had acupuncture with e-stim and it helped a lot. I particularly have problems along the top of my shoulders, back of the neck, and occipital area, and had huge knots all over the area that were palpable and sometimes even visible. The acupuncture really reduced the spasms, stiffness, and pain, and I didn't have to go very often. Every few months along with my meds seemed to keep it in check.

From a biomedical standpoint, I know that acupuncture can help improve circulation and pain tolerance by affecting neurotransmitters. From a TCM standpoint, fibromylagia would be stagnation of energy/qi and blood, meaning that blood and energy are pooling and therefore creating pain. I know that electroacupuncture can offer great relief, but have had little experience with fibromyalgia patients myself.

I have not tried acupuncture for fibromyalgia, but have tried it for allergies. It provided some temporary relief from all the traditional symptoms. What can acupuncture do for fibromyalgia?
