Teaching Feelings to Kids

By July 15, 2022 - 6:26pm

When you have a child, teaching feelings them to express their emotions. They will learn to understand and deal with their feelings by identifying and acknowledging them. Emotions are a natural part of being human. While it may take some time and patience, teaching feelings to kids is a great way to strengthen your child's relationship with you and improve their friendships. Here are some fun activities to help you teach your child about feelings. You can adapt these activities according to your child's needs and abilities.

- Try brainstorming physical symptoms of emotions. Have students name their feelings and describe what they feel. For example, nervousness can cause sweaty hands, whereas fear and anxiety can cause stomach pain. You can also create an emotions wheel where students can write and use the words they associate with those feelings. For a more comprehensive lesson, use flashcards to illustrate different emotions. Encourage your students to practice naming their emotions out loud and on their own.

- Make feelings flashcards for students to practice their vocabulary. You can put several different emotions on each flashcard. Students can guess which word will best describe their feelings, or come up with their own words. Eventually, students will be able to write down what they feel and can act them out. In addition, they will be able to draw pictures to demonstrate their feelings to others. You can also use a white dessert plate as a learning center for the students.
