Feeling Oppressed Is Oppressive: PMDD and Discrimination

By August 31, 2011 - 3:01pm

In this research study, women who perceived discrimination due to race, gender, age, weight, height, or other factors were more likely to have PMDD.

I hadn't realized this was a cause of PMDD. The PMS Comfort article on causes discusses some of the more conventional theories on PMDD.

I'd be curious if anyone knows more about this, or has experienced it. The research article linked above is quite recent, June 2011.

Description

PMDD is the most severe form of PMS. Women with PMDD can have all the same physical symptoms as PMS, but usually have very severe emotional symptoms that make life during the premenstrual phase nearly impossible. PMDD is usually treated with antidepressants or oral contraceptives. Alternative therapies also hold promise for PMDD. I am a holistic doctor who has started a website for PMS and PMDD, and have created this group to help increase awareness of PMDD and create a place where women can share openly about this difficult condition.
