Comparison and Difference between Braces and Invisalign

By October 21, 2015 - 8:59am

Lucky are those who have straight teeth with perfect structure. Appropriate and natural teeth always have their own importance but now, in today’s world nothing seems impossible. Braces are one method through which we can bring unstructured, less defined and crooked teeth into what people would like to see. This way of fixing teeth is quite old fashioned. There is a new technique through which the same result can be expected – invisalign. Differences and similarities; an overall comparison between these two procedures is mentioned in detail.

Comparative studies show that both ways of setting teeth back to normal shape is approachable by orthodontists. Here is how they differ from each other:

Braces:

Price:
It costs around 4000 to 5000 dollars which highly depends on the amount of effort an orthodontist has to put in order to straighten teeth.

Removable:
Braces can’t be removed without the assistance of a dentist. They are fixed and don’t have room to be removed from the person who wears them.

Maintenance:
It takes time to clean them as the option of taking them off isn’t available for braces. Need of getting them tight, cleaned and repaired appears in every two to three weeks.

Clear:
Braces are not clear to the literal meaning. They are translucent which shows their existence on teeth.

Retainer:
Everyone wearing braces are recommended to put on retainers at night time after the entire procedure is finished.
Invisalign:

Price:
It goes up to 8000 dollars which is expensive than braces. It is because of the latest entry in the field of dentistry.

Removable:
These are worn and taken out as per the need. Doesn’t require any dentist to put them off.

Maintenance:
The best thing about invisalign is the maintenance factor. Every two weeks they are changed which means need of wearing same thing repeatedly isn’t needed.

Clear:
They are not crystal clear but yes, they are clearer than braces (translucent color).

Retainer:
There is no need for retainers at all after the entire treatment. Like braces, they aren’t worn at nights.

Conclusion drawn:
All in all we can say that braces are affordable for many but are difficult to maintain. Retainers need to be worn after the entire procedure finishes.

However, there is no need of retainers in invisalign. Another wonderful feature of invisalign is the fact that they are clear and can’t be seen from far.

Patients who come for dental care are recommended to plan invisalign and not braces. But, obviously that has to do with pocket of the patient as well. Comfort level is much more in invisalign and not in braces. Hence, old people are advised to go for invisalign and not braces.

As for food intake, there is not a single restriction with invisalign and those who wear braces are supposed to be careful while having food which contains fiber.

But in the end, it depends on the patient, his pocket, comfort level, age and interest which makes them decide for the best.
