My Next Course: Women Only, Here's Why
Okay, friends, I've got a confession to make: my next course is going to be for the ladies only. Now, before the guys start throwing tomatoes (or worse, unfollow me!), hear me out. This isn't about excluding anyone, it's about creating a unique space for women to connect, grow, and unleash their creative superpowers. So, I wanted to get a proper piano for this new life of mine first. So here I am, heading over to https://muex.com/ (because let’s face it, they are only the best), browsing and getting my hands on the sweetest deal I’ve ever made.
But enough about that. Back to my journey.
You see, back in 2021, I led a course called Piano.Vocal.Success (catchy, right?). It was my third time running it, but this particular cohort was different. It was my first all-female group, and let me tell you, the energy was magical. We laughed, we cried, we sang our hearts out, and we formed friendships that still last today. After that experience, I knew there was something special about women coming together to create and learn. It's like a secret sauce, a blend of vulnerability, empathy, and unapologetic creativity that's hard to describe but impossible to ignore.
Why Women-Only? It's About Creating a Safe Space
Let's be real, ladies. We live in a world that can be pretty darn tough sometimes. We juggle work, family, relationships, and everything in between, all while battling societal expectations and the occasional bout of imposter syndrome. It's exhausting, right? That's why I want to create a space where we can let our hair down (metaphorically, of course), be ourselves, and explore our creativity without fear of judgment or comparison. A space where we can lift each other up, share our struggles, and celebrate our successes. I've witnessed the power of these spaces firsthand. Back in my music therapy days, I worked in a women's group at a rehab center. The honesty, vulnerability, and sheer strength of those women blew me away. They told me time and time again how that safe space allowed them to heal, connect, and rediscover their voices.
But What About the Guys? A Message to the Men in My Life
Now, fellas, before you start feeling left out, let me assure you this isn't about excluding you from my musical world. In fact, I have plans to create a men-only group in the future because I truly believe in the power of single-sex spaces for creative expression and personal growth. I know firsthand how supportive and encouraging men can be in creative settings. My husband, as I mentioned, is a drummer, and he's always been my biggest cheerleader. But sometimes, guys, we ladies need a space that's just for us, a place where we can let loose, be vulnerable, and explore our creativity without feeling self-conscious or the need to prove ourselves.
Think of it like a guys' night out versus a girls' night in. Both can be fun and fulfilling, but they offer different kinds of connection and camaraderie. It's the same with creative spaces. A mixed-gender group can be great for collaboration and diversity of ideas, but a women-only group can offer a unique sense of intimacy, understanding, and shared experience.
So, guys, while this particular course is just for the ladies, know that I value your support and appreciate your understanding. And who knows, maybe one day we'll be jamming together in a men-only group, creating our own brand of musical magic.
The Benefits of a Sisterhood of Sound
Now, I'm not saying that men can't be supportive or create awesome music (hello, my husband is a drummer!). But there's something undeniably powerful about women coming together to make art. It's like a symphony of shared experiences, a chorus of voices that understand the unique challenges and joys of being a woman in the world.
In a women-only space, we can:
Be unapologetically ourselves: We can let go of the need to impress or perform, and just be who we are, messy hair, imperfect vocals, and all.
Embrace our vulnerability: We can share our struggles, our fears, and our insecurities without feeling ashamed or judged.
Lift each other up: We can celebrate each other's successes, offer support during challenges, and create a community of empowered women.
Tap into our collective creativity: We can brainstorm ideas, collaborate on projects, and inspire each other to reach new heights.
Find our unique voices: We can experiment with different styles, genres, and instruments, and discover the music that truly speaks to our souls.
