As a 43-year-old woman and a mother now done having children, I was truly amazed to learn, through my job, that women have had trouble for years accessing desired birth control, especially the long-term acting contraceptives including intrauterine devices (IUDs) that are recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as top means for pregnancy prevention. Yet, in the United States, women are using this means of birth control less than women outside our country. Why?
The good news is with a new approach and new IUD product approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, called Liletta, developed by Medicines360, from the largest every hormonal study in the US looking at women of all different ages, socioeconomics, their plan is to help make this product accessible to women who want it.
Ms. Tarico recently wrote the following story now on Salon.com about how women now have more choice in their birth control, because a choice is now available regardless of women's socioeconomics and regardless of whether women have or have not had children previously.
For full disclosure: Medicines360 is one of my clients I do public relations for. It's such a great opportunity to learn about new healthcare news that impacts women directly and that I can be involved with helping to spread the word.
