The time spent at home away from work and school is intended to be relaxing and comfortable. Families who do not feel safe and secure will have a hard time relaxing while at home. It is important for homeowners to take actions to secure the house and make it feel safer for everyone. Several steps will allow homeowners to provide the best and safest atmosphere possible for the family.
4. Install Additional Indoor Locks
Creating a safe atmosphere for the family should include installing strong interior locks on doors and windows. Interior locks like a latch bolt can only be triggered from the inside. These locks are almost impossible to pick from the outside. The locks add strength to doors and windows so they cannot be forced open. They can deter burglars from attempting to enter the house. This creates a secure atmosphere when the family is at home.
3. Make Home Repairs Regularly
Burglars will use any damage to the home to gain entry. This includes cracked windows and broken door frames. Homeowners should make repairs to the house regularly in order to close these potential entry points. Small problems could allow a burglar to enter a basement or attic unnoticed. Making repairs also improves the safe atmosphere of the house because it will reduce the chance of injuries. Fixing uneven floors and loose stairs makes it less likely someone will trip and fall.
2. Keep Bushes Away From Doors and Windows
Many burglars take the time to watch a family before attempting to rob a house. A common way to do this is to hide behind plantings that are near windows or doors. People inside the house cannot see the burglar. Homeowners will want to remove shrubs or bushes near windows and doors that could be providing this type of cover. The space outside of windows and doors should be clearly visible from the street. Taking away the places where burglars could hide outside of the home will improve family safety.
1. Install a Complete Security System
Creating the best and safest atmosphere for a family should include installing a complete security system that covers every part of the house. Companies can install cameras, motion detectors and sensors that detect breaking glass in the home. The systems can be monitored wireless by homeowners or by a professional monitoring service. Some installations even include automation options so lights can be turned on and off automatically. A home security system will allow the family to feel safe at all times.

Hello Jayla,
Thank you for sharing these four easy ways to make our homes safe. As a matter of fact, I completed pruning back the shrubs in front of my house. Summer growth on these shrubs were blocking the windows. Don't want to provide burglars a good hiding place!
