In Oct '10 ,after a UTI, my D.O> suggested his female partner do a pap. I insisted on being tested for every STD i could think of. Every test came back negative, except HPV. I got a phone call saying I most likely had cervical cancer and needed to go for a biopsy as soon as possible and they would call me with a referal.. A Phone call! I under stand that the DR was just reading lab results, but geesh. So, after i stope crying and shaking, i told my MOm (yup at 41 a girl still needs her mom) I got an appt 2 week later for an OB/GYN. She was/is wonderful. She answered my questions. I was pretty much a mess. Terrified, anxiety ridden, stressed out, scared, angry, frustrated, devestated,, and I felt all alone. Biopsy and scraping went well. It was the waiting for results that was agony. My DR did say that if she saw anythiung bad, she would send me to t he hosptial right from the office. She explained everything she was doing and what she was seeing. She did see low grade HPV but, not the high grade strains. results came back normal. Very normal. She explained that Lab errors are fairly common and that reviewing my labs f rom the pap and the results, the bio/scraping that there was no way the original pap tests were mine. I about fainted. She told me to come in for anoter pap in 3 months. Did, and it was normal. Go back next month, for my 6 month pap.
I just want anybody who has been dignosed with HPV, you are not alone! Find a DR you feel comfortable with with, ask questions, no questions is stupid. Take care of your body! HPV is a virus and you need a healthy immune system. take a multi vitamian, eat healthier.stay hydrated. Get educated.
I admit I stil get upset and overwhelmed, but I have found other outlets to vent. Writing, watching a favorite movie, reading , something to take my mind off of it.
The days will get better, and you will feel better. Time is key.
Thanks

Thanks. I tend to be a worrier! But, I like to stay informed as well, but one can go crazy looking up info and getting condradicting info! I just write downa ny questions i have and talk to my OB.
I was 41 when i was diagnosed and I'm peri menopausal! So, one can imagine, the changes your body is going through and .then having an STD you arent informed on!
I think I blammed myself because it was a "friends with benefits" realtinship for over 8 years, While I was only with him, I guess I wasn't the only one he was with. I should have insisted on protection, but I trusted him. When I told him, he asked if I had any symptoms, told him what I was told, told him to have any of his other partners to go for a test,a nd his last words to me------- See ya!
I was angery , depressed, furious, sad, scared, distruaght, terrified, a basket case. So, if anybody who has HPV has those emotions, from what I have gathered from the site, it's normal. :) Phew!
