Today, senior living homes are using more up-to-date technology and amenities to help residents live comfortably and safe. Not only do the families of senior citizens want their relatives to have a good experience here, but senior citizens also want to have access to some of the most modern equipment. Usually unlike anything we see in popular culture, senior homes are becoming state of the art, modern, and safer places to live.
Fitness Gyms
Seniors who live in a senior living home should maintain their physical fitness as long as they can, which is why many of these places have a fitness gym on-site. Residents use equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bicycles to improve cardiovascular health and to promote better fitness all around. In addition, a fitness gym should have access to free weights and resistance bands as part of physical therapy exercises and strength building. Medical personnel and physical trainers can use these facilities to meet one-on-one with patients and develop exercises that work with their bodies.
Computer Rooms
Today’s senior citizens want daily access to computers and the internet, so they can email friends and relatives, keep up with social media, and of course the news. They may also want scanning equipment to upload photographs onto websites, or they might want a printer to create documents. Having modern technology and equipment available is something that shouldn’t be overlooked. In addition, the senior citizen home may offer classes to its residents to teach them new computer skills.
Permitting Pets
There is medical research that reveals having a pet is healthy both physically and mentally, which is why some senior living homes are permitting pets. Having a dog, bird, or cat can make a senior citizen feel emotionally calmer, and there are also physical health benefits from having a pet.
More Food Options
While some senior citizens require a strict daily diet, many of them want more food options than just meat and potatoes. There are some residents who may want to avoid eating meat, or others who want a variety when it comes to when meals are served. Homes can thing about providing vegan meal options or even an opportunity to prepare their own meals in a resident kitchen.
Home-like Environments
Instead of having a senior living home that looks and smells like a hospital, most seniors and their families want a home-like environment that has a common living room, but that also has private bedrooms with connected bathrooms. In addition, the senior living homes are decorated to look like a real home, so residents can feel more comfortable.
Home Alarm Systems
Today’s senior living homes should be concerned about personal safety both for residents and the staff. This is why senior living home managers are installing home alarm systems or more surveillance options in their security measures. These security systems are vital for common doors that are open to the public, but the senior citizens also want alarms on their apartments or bedrooms.
If you or a loved one is living in an old-fashioned senior home, then it is time to talk to the management about making changes. In the future, more senior citizens will want to live in an assisted senior living home, and they will want to have modern amenities available.

Hello and thank you for this great Share.
I very much agree - the days of these homes being filled with disassociated humans on communal couches and blaring TVs are over - we need to adapt all these homes for modern living. "Grandma" still plays tennis, swims laps and reads the New York Times online! Our nursing facilities should reflect this.
